Jim H. Turner, Jr., CPA, CVA, CMEA
President

Jim is the founder and president of Turner Business Appraisers and manages all aspects of the business, including employees, compliance projects, accounting, finances, and marketing. Jim is a graduate of UNC-Charlotte, a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers, NC Association of Assessing Officers, and the NC Association of Certified Public Accountants. He is a licensed member of the NEBB Institute and a NACVA Certified Business Valuator. Jim is a proud father & husband and is very active in his church, where he serves on the finance committee.
Bill Smoak
Vice President & Senior Auditor

Bill assists the president of TBA with management of business operations and is the primary liaison for TBA’s external IT providers. Bill is a graduate of Wingate University and has successfully passed the North Carolina CPA exam. He has honed his skills through the completion of several courses sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Revenue and the International Association of Assessing Officers. In his spare time, Bill serves in the worship ministry on the visual media team at his church and enjoys running road races with his wife.
Ed Steh, CPA

Ed assists the President & Vice President of TBA with management of business operations. He is a graduate of Cornell University and obtained his Masters of Accountancy from California State University-Fullerton. In his spare time, Ed enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter—and playing his favorite sport, soccer.
Brett Cohen, CPA

Brett is an experienced auditor in both the public and private sectors of financial reporting. He is a graduate of Georgia Tech University and obtained his Masters of Accountancy from North Carolina State University. A sports lover & family man, Brett serves as the sports outreach chairman at his local church and is also a youth sports coach. He enjoys spending time with his wife and children.
Janet Boney, CPA

Janet has over 20 years of experience as a corporate tax professional. She is a graduate of the University of Mississippi and is a licensed CPA in both North Carolina and Texas. Away from work, Janet can be found reading a good book, attending church, or socializing with family and friends.
Fred Liner, CPA

Fred earned his Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of North Carolina -Charlotte and a Masters Degree in Accounting from Queens University – Charlotte. He is an associate member of the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants and has a lifetime membership to the North Carolina Association of County Finance Officers and the North Carolina Government Finance Officers Association. Fred sings in a gospel group and enjoys spending time with his wife and son.
Sandra Turner
Marketing Manager
Sandra assists the CEO with marketing decisions and supervises the development and design of marketing materials from the marketing team. She earned her Master’s Degree from Lenoir Rhyne University in Business Administration and enjoys being a wife and mother.
Brooke Sherrill
Marketing Representative & Office Administrator

Brooke assists with the design and development of marketing materials and regularly represents TBA at conferences and other customer care events in addition to handling all aspects of office administration. She has successfully completed the course Property Tax Listing & Assessing in North Carolina, taught by the North Carolina Department of Revenue and is a graduate of Appalachian State University. In her spare time, Brooke enjoys singing in the praise band at church and spending time with her husband and sons.
Debbie King
Payroll Specialist & Administrative Assistant

Debbie prepares payroll, tax deposits, QuickBooks entries, and handles all aspects of accounts payable and receivable. Additionally, she offers administrative support for the entire audit staff. Debbie attended Central Piedmont Community College and plays piano for her church choir. She enjoys spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren in her spare time.
